Quabit is just getting started in Kolkata — we're looking for founding volunteers. Join us
About us
Quabit is a community initiative working to improve access to education and healthcare for families who need it most — starting in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Our story
In every neighbourhood of Kolkata there are children who are bright and eager but falling behind at school, and families who put off seeing a doctor because they cannot afford to lose a day's wages.
Quabit — the name stands for being your helping hand — was started to offer practical, respectful help with both. We believe education and health are deeply connected: children who are unwell miss school, and families facing medical bills often cannot afford books.
[Add the founding story: who started Quabit, when, and what prompted it. Use real names only with permission.]
We are at the beginning of this journey. Our programmes are still being planned, and we are not yet a registered organisation. We think it is important to say so plainly — and to earn trust step by step through what we actually do.
Mission & vision
To improve access to quality education and basic healthcare for underserved families in Kolkata, through practical, community-led support delivered with dignity.
A Kolkata where every child can learn with confidence and every family can get the care they need — whatever their income.
Core values
We treat every person as a partner, not a project. No one is photographed or written about without informed consent.
We report what is true and verifiable — and say clearly when information is not yet available.
We listen to families, teachers and health workers, and design our work around what communities tell us they need.
Children and vulnerable adults come first. Our safeguarding rules apply to everyone who works with us.
We plan to publish reports on what we do and how every rupee is used once we begin operating.
We work with patience and kindness, recognising that small, consistent help often matters most.
History & milestones
We will add milestones here as they happen — not before.
[One or two sentences on how and why Quabit started]
Bringing together founding volunteers, planning our first programmes in education and healthcare, and setting up the policies that will guide our work.
Formally registering the organisation, opening donations through a secure payment provider, and starting our first pilot programmes. Each step will be recorded here when it is complete.
Our approach
A simple, repeatable way of working that puts communities and evidence first.

We speak with families, teachers, health workers and local groups to understand what is actually needed before we plan anything.
We design each initiative with schools, clinics and community organisations, so our work complements existing services rather than duplicating them.
Trained, background-checked volunteers and qualified professionals deliver our programmes, following our safeguarding and volunteer guidelines.
We keep simple, consent-based records — attendance, check-ups, learning progress — so we can tell what is working.
We publish what we did, what it cost and what changed, including what didn’t go to plan.
Areas of operation
Our base and the focus of our first planned programmes.
Some initiatives may extend to nearby areas once we have the volunteers and partners to do so responsibly.
Volunteers anywhere can help with design, writing, research, translation and technology.
Leadership
Our leadership team, board members and advisors will be introduced here with their permission.
